A tale for a Wednesday: Wok, Weight & Wedding

Losing weight is easy. Eat less, move more.
To keep it off? That's completely different.

That's why people yo-yo, from one extreme to another. Not just clients, coaches too. Balance doesn’t come naturally, a part of their being. It's all about psychology, beliefs, perceptions, behaviours and habits.

Sidhanth messaged me, 8 months back. He was a regular at my studio. Then covid happened, everyone was going through their own shit.

He used to run @wokmeplease. He recalls,“I had to shut down most of my restaurants, start fresh with a new business with limited knowledge. During this time my health took a back seat as I would be glued to my desk for 14hrs/day. Over a year I became physically weak & it impacted my work also”

Running on motivation doesn't last. With time priorities change. As we grow, so do responsibilities/obligations. Time is limited, motivations fade & an all or nothing mentality gives in.

I told him, this isn't a “4 din ladki in” program (recently engaged to his long time gf & they’re soon getting married, maybe that was his motivation?). This is a very slow, sustainable process where we build long term habits.

Today: 7kgs down, 4in slimmer, stronger, no pains/aches, feeling confident in our ability & body, feeling energetic, sleeping better, lighter on our feet. This is success in traditional sense. We celebrate a robust understanding of health & change in behaviours/habits more.

He has travelled a cumulative 2-3 months throughout, attended weddings, bachelor trips, music festivals & the usual festivities. He’s still been in control because of his habits while finding the balance to enjoy. He calls it “mental fitness”, why not.

There’s no perfect routine, diet or time to get healthy. You don’t have to live like a hermit or an athlete. Unless you truly want to. Don’t get into the cycle of restriction & indulgence, extremely motivated or highly guilty. Work on very small habits that you can sustain whenever, wherever & treat health like a lifelong work in progress.

Congratulations to Sidhanth on starting a new chapter very soon.

All the best broski, lots of love.
